'ElgarWorks is delighted to sponsor the CM&W Festival 2011'

ElgarWorks is a company which was founded in 2007, the 150th. anniversary year of Elgar’s birth. The  purpose of the company is to provide assistance in all practical ways to performers and promoters wishing to put on works by Elgar. One aim of the company is to make available for sale or for hire the vocal scores, full scores and instrumental parts of all of Elgar's music so that choral societies and orchestras may obtain them at reasonable cost. So far the company has provided vocal scores of The Spirit of England (for the Three Choirs Festival of 2007), of The Black Knight (for Solihull Choral Society and for the Longfellow Chorus of Portland, Maine, USA), of the Coronation Ode (for the Worcester Festival) and of Scenes from the Saga of King Olaf (for performances in Lewes in 2010 and Portland, Maine in 2012). Additionally, full scores and sets of instrumental parts of all of the above works (except the Ode) have been prepared.

Music at the King’s School

Music is very strong at King's, where we study a wide range of styles and techniques and try to offer as many opportunities to play music as possible, in order to enhance the skills learned in the classroom. For pupils who want to make music a central part of their education, or even make it a future career, King's offers excellent opportunities.

GCSE Music is suitable for those who simply want general background knowledge to use in later life or for those going on to A-level. Recently many pupils have gone on to gain Organ and Choral Awards at Oxford and Cambridge, and been successful in the examinations of the Royal College of Organists. Four pupils have played in the National Youth Orchestra and each year about 100 pupils earn high grades in a wide range of instruments in Associated Board Examinations.

With three orchestras, two choirs, a jazz band, two organs and strong links with the Cathedral, King's can offer you a wealth of musical opportunities whatever your tastes. Our music awards will appeal to you if you are really interested in music. For more information about these awards see below:
